Oh, Canada...
I am seeking a country whose leader does not neglect the needs of his people and who seeks to address the economic downturn that has hit North America.
I am seeking a country whose leader doesn’t willfully commit unconstitutional acts or engage in questionable political tactics to get his way.
I am seeking a country whose leader does not believe in preemptive strikes and who continues to support a failed strategy in Iraq.
I am seeking a country whose leader’s authority doesn’t come with the caveat of royal approval or who views the presidency as his birthright.
I am seeking a country whose leader uses its resources not only to benefit its people, but the people of the world.
I am seeking a country whose...

**** BULLETIN *****
OTTAWA, 12/4/08 -- MichaĆ«lle Jean, the proxy for Canada’s true head of state -- Queen Elizabeth II – suspended Parliament until January 26th rather than allow the nation’s embattled prime minister to lose a no confidence vote. Prime Minister Stephen Harper, a member of Canada’s Conservative Party, asked Jean to intervene.
So, let me get this straight...
The head of state is also the Queen of England...
The Queen’s proxy is also Canada’s commander-in-chief of the nation’s armed forces...
She has the power to shut down the democratically elected lawmaking body of the government whenever it is convenient to do so...
Harper has thrown the nation into a constitutional crisis...
Harper fails to support economic reforms and policies that would benefit his own people...
Oh, Canada...
Please disregard this letter. I’ll take my chances with President-Elect Barack Obama.
Sincerely,
Robert Raketty
