I sent you my story. I twisted my ankle looking for a P-I. I ran up the box just as someone was going to put a quarter in to get the last copy. I tripped, he won!

I would read your blog regularly, post comments often and add my you to my blog roll.

My son Alex is doing a report for school. They are studying the various different news sources as part of a communications class. He decided to write his report about newspapers. They just assigned the project and he's just starting to gather information. He and I were just talking about how people are starting to move away from printed materials. The future lies in devices like Kindle. If I win this I will give it to my son for his report.

I would donate my copy to the annual fund-raising auction for Old Mill Center for Children and Families, a school for developmentally challenged children. The Center is in Corvallis, Oregon, and I know has many ex-Seattleites who would be interested in bidding on the P.I. Thanks for the opportunity! flyingnunn@azci.net

Wow. I live in Florida, and I just heard today about the demise of the Post-Intelligencer. I never read a print copy, but when I was a broadcast news producer, I learned that I couldn't always trust the truncated AP broadcast wires, and for breaking news out of Seattle, I visited the PI website to read the full accounts of what was going on. Sure, I get a lot of my news online (I rarely even see TV news since leaving the biz), but I still feel great sadness at seeing a publishing institution fall by the wayside. Yes, times change, but saving a printout from the computer (or saving the file) is not the same as pulling a yellowed piece of newsprint out of a scrapbook to recall a world-changing event, a personal accomplishment, or the life and death of a loved one. I'm sorry for Seattle's loss, and I mourn the decline of the print media in America.

Ok - I doubt I fit any of the categories but I've lived in Seattle my whole life, and delivered the PI when I was in junior high - I was even carrier of the month once and got my picture in the paper *blush*
My husband planned on grabbing a copy but apparently it didn't occur to him to get it early. By the time he got off of work I know that most places had already been out for hours so we missed out.
I'm glad you got up early enough to get a few copies, thanks for giving them away to share the love!

As someone that used to work and attend school in downtown Seattle, it would be a treat for a native West Coast thirtysomething born in California now living in Oregon. I will preserved in one of those tightly-sealed vacuum bags ment for linens and clothes promoted on infomercials. I don't even have a copy of Obama's election night victory. It will be neat and sweet to see how much this will go for on my deathbed. I plan to be at least a century old. See ya in 2077.

A sampling of some of what your missing in my e-mail box (unedited):

Hey man...great idea having a little contest. Hopefully I can hit all 3 points, cause I’d love to have a copy of the last P-I...

1. My search story: So I was seriously fighting off a cold Tuesday and didn’t want to spend a ton of time outside, and also forgot my keycard for the office (meaning I was trying to limit trips out/in so as to not have to ring the doorbell and make someone get up). But after forgetting to check the boxes in the morning in my fog of sniffles, I wandered out at lunchtime on a mission for the paper (and some tea). But low and behold, at the newsstand at Pike Place, they had literally JUST sold their last copy, and the purchaser was actually being interviewed on camera (not sure who was filming, but whatever). I made a cursory trip to a couple of drug stores and Borders, but no dice... Much sadness.

2. Altruistic intentions: I’m definitely not trying to profit off of this, I won’t be ebaying it because that’s just too much of a damn hassle. I just want a chance to sit down with a ink-on-paper last edition and read it cover to cover. I will probably recycle it when I’m done with it, but it will be well enjoyed in the mean time. Is that so wrong?

3. Promotion of SeattleBlogger.com: Thanks will be piled upon you via my blog, a relatively well read Tacoma-focused blog) and twitter.

KEVIN

Just would love to win this to Give to my older brother who is a former news paper writer (Everett Harold) and other small papers in Oregon. He now is working for company with there printed magazine. Any ways he really wanted a copy and could not find one. In short your copy would end up in the hands of someone who would appreciate the historic value of the paper and not just turn around and sell it.

HOLLY

I just wanted to put in my request. I am a so called “news buff” who has been a fan for years. I used to create mock Seattle PI editions for my college in Michigan (Michigan State University). I could not find an edition when I looked and was trying you. I do not have a big long story to promote myself; I would just give it a very good home. I am a collector and would just love to have it! I would never flip it for money as I do not believe in that and it makes me angry when people do that.

I enjoy reading the paper and it's a shame that some towns will lose their dailies soon. Even though I live near chicago, I'd like to own a piece of history. It's historical value is priceless, it doesn't belong on ebay.

I would line my birdcage with this rag. Should have died a long time ago. Good riddance.
